Quarterly AI funding statistics in 2026

Large rounds kept coming in Q3, spread across more companies. A record 27 companies raised $1 billion or more during the quarter, up from 16 in Q2 and 14 in Q1.

Younger companies took a larger slice. Half of the startup capital raised in Q3 went to companies founded in 2022 or later, per Crunchbase.

How to read AI funding statistics

Headline totals depend on a few companies. A single Anthropic round accounted for close to a third of Q2 2026 global funding, so quarterly swings often reflect one deal.

Deal counts give a second view. Around 6,000 startups raised money in each of Q1 and Q3 2026, which shows activity beyond the largest labs.

Definitions also differ. Crunchbase counts companies it tags as AI across the stack, while CB Insights uses its own sector rules, which explains why Q3 shares range from 55% to 64%.
