Who owns Bluesky today?

Bluesky Social PBC runs the Bluesky app. It also builds the AT Protocol, the open network the app runs on. Its FAQ says Jay Graber and the Bluesky team own the firm.

Graber was CEO from 2021 until March 2026. She is now chief innovation officer and chairs the board, according to a Bluesky post from July 10, 2026.

Outside investors own part of it too. Bluesky raised $123 million in three rounds from July 2023 to April 2025.

No stake sizes are public. Bluesky has not said how much Graber, staff or any single fund holds.

Twitter, now X, is not an owner. It paid Bluesky for services, and that deal ended in late 2022. Threads works another way: it belongs to Meta, where Mark Zuckerberg controls most of the votes.

Who controls Bluesky?

A four-person board runs Bluesky. Its FAQ names Jay Graber, Jeremie Miller, Mike Masnick and Kinjal Shah as directors.

Miller invented the Jabber chat protocol and sat on the first board. Masnick joined in August 2024. Shah, a Blockchain Capital partner, joined after the Series A in October 2024.

The board led the hunt for a new chief. Bluesky named Toni Schneider interim CEO on March 9, 2026. It made the job permanent on July 10, 2026.

As a public benefit firm, Bluesky has a legal mission as well as profit goals. It has said this status lets it put the mission first.

Bluesky has not shared its share classes or vote split. No filing shows a founder super-vote setup like Reddit’s two-tier share structure.
